Great Lakes of the Great Plains
Southwest Oklahoma's Great Plains Country is as well-known for
its great lakes as its great plains. They're great in all senses
of the word: great in size and in wonderful, natural resources for
outdoor and water sports and many other recreational activities
- from hiking and hunting to riding and reunions.
GREAT FISHING
Our lakes are known for great fishing and record-breaking catches.
Fish populations include: hybrid striped, largemouth, and white
bass; bluegill, bullhead, crappie, catfish
and channel catfish, perch, saugeye, walleye, sunfish, and trout.
Three of the last five state-record bass were caught at Duncan Lake,
while Waurika Lake is perhaps best
known for its great crappie and hybrid striper fishing. Lake Altus
Lugert holds two state records for largest walleye and hybrid bass.
Trout season is November 1 - March 15. Several of the lakes offer
tournaments at various times of year. For updated information, call
contact numbers listed for each lake.
